Depti Sharma is the daughter of Sushilaa and Bhagwan Sharma. Out of her siblings, she is the youngest. Her father worked for Indian Railways as a major booking supervisor before retiring. At the young age of 9 she became interested in the game of cricket. Sharma would regularly ask her father to ask her brother Sumit Sharma, a former Uttar Pradesh pacer and her first coach, to bring her down to the pitch so she could watch net practises and other games. She was requested to return the ball into play at one of the net sessions at the Ekalavya Sports Stadium in Agra, which was attended by her brother and his teammates. On a straight toss from a distance of fifty meters, the ball struck the stumps. Hemlata Kala, the national women’s team selector for India at the time, saw this, and it was the pivotal moment in her life.
