The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a below-average season in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), failing to satisfy the great expectations of its devoted fan base. Under Faf du Plessis’ leadership, the team’s adventure ended abruptly in the round-robin stage, finishing sixth on the IPL points table with a balanced record of 7 wins and 7 defeats.

Following this dismal performance, the team’s administration, headed by head coach Andy Flower, planned to usher in a new era by making bold and smart moves. In November 2023, RCB decided not to retain underperforming players such as Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel.
