Ruturaj Gaikwad, born on 31 January 1997, is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Maharashtra team in domestic cricket and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. In July 2021, he made his international debut for the Indian cricket team against Sri Lanka. He led the Indian side to gold in the 2022 Asian Games and was the top scorer in the 2021 IPL season. He also captains the Maharashtra team in T20 and List A cricket.

Ruturaj comes from Pune, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. His father, Dasharath Gaikwad, used to work at the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). His mother, Sawita Gaikwad, is a teacher at a municipal school. Despite his interest in cricket, Ruturaj’s parents never discouraged him from studying. Ruturaj’s native village is Pargaon Memane, located in the Saswad region of Pune district.

Ruturaj attended St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School in Khadki, Pune for his primary education. Later, he went to Lakashmibai Nadgude School in Pimple Nilakh, Pune. He pursued his college education at Marathvada Mitra Mandal’s Polytechnic.

Gaikwad started attending the Varroc Dilip Vengsarkar Academy, which is located in Thergaon, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, when he was 13 years old. In the Cadence Trophy of 2010, he scored 63* (71) against Mumbai’s MIG Cricket Club while playing for the academy.

He was named man of the match, and his team won by seven wickets at Cadence Cricket Ground. In the 2015 Maharashtra Invitational Tournament, he scored 306 runs in a match, alongside his colleague Vinay, contributing a total of 522 runs.

He played his first-class debut match for Maharashtra in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy on October 6, 2016. He made his Twenty20 debut for Maharashtra on February 2, 2017, during the 2016-17 Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament. In the 2019 Ranji Trophy season, he opened the innings for the Maharashtra Cricket team against Chhattisgarh and scored 108 runs in the first inning and 76 runs in the second inning. He was named Man of the Match for his performance.

He made his List A debut for Maharashtra in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 25, 2017. Throughout this competition, he played seven matches and scored 444 runs with an average of 63.42. He scored three half-centuries and a century and was the third-highest run-scorer in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
